Central Bank and Communication - RBA

Published On 09 Sep 2026 , 06:48 PMRBA deputy governor Andrew Hauser's interview with ABC's 7:30 program yesterday was pre-recorded.
It is a known fact that broadcast times can vary a bit, and in this instance it was around 7:40 pm.
A pre-recorded interview means ABC could write a story, and this was published at 7:30 pm.
The question is whether this is acceptable: a story before the broadcast.
My view is that this is fine. Because the interview was with ABC and the timing was 7:30 pm, so "my interview, my story."
This is no different from interviews with other media where they publish the story at their chosen time. The RBA communications team can't control everything. And they shouldn't attempt to.
Fairness is important, and I am all for it. But you can only do so much. The key is to learn from any mistakes and do better, if there's a better.
