Australia's Private New Capex Rises 0.4% q/q in Dec Qtr

Australia's total private new capex rose 0.4% q/q in the December quarter, leading to a 7.8% rise y/y, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Buildings and structures contributed to the rise, up 2.3% q/q, offsetting the -1.7% decline in equipment, plant and machinery.

Estimate 5 for 2025-26 capex was lifted to $199.3bn, up 4.3% from estimate 4. The ABS also published estimate 1 for 2026-27, which was 7.3% higher than estimate 1 for 2025-26 at $158.4bn.
